10 Coronavirus Cases In Council Rock During District’s 3rd Week

District officials reported 24 coronavirus cases among students and staff during the first week of the year and 28 cases last week.

NEWTOWN, PA — Ten students and staff members at Council Rock schools tested positive for the coronavirus during the third week of school, according to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard.

That total is down significantly from the 28 cases reported during the second week of the 2021-22 school year. Officials reported 24 cases during the first week, according to the dashboard.

Council Rock School District started the new school year with a mask-optional policy, though students and staff are now required to wear masks under the Pennsylvania Department of Health's statewide order. It is unclear how many students have submitted medical exception forms.

Seven of the 10 cases reported in the third week, which started Sept. 13, were among students and staff in Council Rock elementary schools. Churchville and Holland elementary schools each had two coronavirus cases Thursday, while Newtown, Richboro and Rolling Hills elementary schools each had one, the dashboard shows.

Two cases were reported Thursday at Council Rock High School South and one was reported at Council Rock North. Both high schools had four positive cases during the first week, according to the dashboard.

Newtown Market Day To Return Oct. 2 After Pandemic Pause

As of Thursday, there have been no coronavirus cases during the third week of class at Maureen M. Welch Elementary School, which reported seven cases last week, according to the district’s data.

Newtown Middle School and Council Rock’s Sloan School are the only schools in the district that have not recorded a coronavirus case through the first three weeks of the 2021-22 year. No cases have been recorded in the district’s administration building or transportation unit.

More than 130 school-aged children in Bucks County tested positive for the coronavirus between Sep. 2 and Sep. 8, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
