5 Newtown Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

With the giving season nearly here, Patch readers should check out some of these local non-profit groups while considering local donations.

NEWTOWN, PA —If you’re like many of your Newtown neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Newtown area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. Newtown Historic Association: Incorporated in 1964, the NHA is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Newtown's historical heritage.

2. A Love For Life: A Love for Life is dedicated to raising funds for pancreatic cancer research. The nonprofit donates 100 percent of the money raised to cutting edge research being done at the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center.
3. The Newtown Theatre: The nonprofit Newtown Theatre is the oldest continuously operating movie theatre in the nation. It is overseen by the Community Welfare Council.
4. Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired: The association provides resources, answers, and support for people with blindness or other visual impairments that maximize their ability to meet life’s daily challenges and realize their continued self-worth and value to the community.

5. Bucks County Community College Foundation: The foundation fosters philanthropy and engage alumni, friends, foundations, and corporate partners to support its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education.
