6 Fun Things To Do In Bucks County This Weekend

Weekend highlights include a new Black History exhibit opening at the Michener Art Museum and a birthday party fit for a President.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The long President's Day weekend is here, bringing with it a myriad of fun things to do in Bucks County.

Keeping with the spirit of the weekend, Washington Crossing Historic Park invites everyone to a free birthday party for George Washington on Sunday at the park. There will be lots of fun things to do including watching the General cut his birthday cake.

Award-Winning Student Art On Display

Award-winning student artwork is on display this weekend at Phillips' Mill Community Association in Solebury Township. The 12th annual Youth Art Exhibition spotlights 149 works of art representing 147 student artists from 24 Pennsylvania and New Jersey high schools. The pieces were reviewed by esteemed artist, Freda Williams, who selected first, second and third place winners and honorable mentions from five categories of work - painting, works on paper, photography, 3-dimensional work, and digital art. The show is open from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15 and 16 at Phillips' Mill, 2619 River Road, New Hope 18938. It can also

Park To Throw Birthday Party For George

Washington Crossing Historic Park will throw a fun-filled celebration of George Washington’s 293rd birthday on Sunday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park. The rain or shine family-friendly event will feature hands-on activities for kids, including Quill Pen Writing, Whirly-Gig Game making, and a soldiers’ drill. Visitors can also enjoy Colonial cooking, spinning, blacksmithing, musket firing, artillery demonstrations, and more. The museum and gift shop will also be open to explore. At 1:45 p.m., the public is invited to gather in the Visitor Center to sing Happy Birthday to General Washington and watch as he cuts his birthday cake with his sword. The cake is generously donated by The Caketeria in Newtown. Koffee Time will be on site with coffee and small bites available for purchase. The event is free, thanks in part to the generous support of NJM Insurance Group.

Winter Blues Fest In Doylestown

Poco’s Mexican-American Restaurant and Bar in Doylestown is bringing its Winter Blues Fest to the stage this weekend. The event takes place on Sunday, February 16 from 2 to 8 p.m. featuring a lineup of bands and performers. Scheduled to perform are the Mark Margolies Band, the Slidewinder Blues Band, the Little Red Rooster Blues Band, Steve Guyger and The Excellos and All Star Blues. Admission is $15. (at the door). The event takes place in Cabaret on the second floor. Poco's is located at 625 N. Main Street, Doylestown.

'Naughty by Nature' Lecture In Lower Makefield

Get ready to dive into the wild world of animal kingdom reproduction antics. The public is invited to attend a free lecture, "Naughty By Nature," presented by noted naturalist, environmental educator and author Mike Weilbacher on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lower Makefield Administration Building, 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley 19067. Attendees will learn all about the fascinating and sometimes scandalous ways animals reproduce in this PG-13 discussion. The lecture is sponsored by the Lower Makefield Township Environmental Advisory Council.

Exhibit Celebrates Black Art Curator Lewis Tanner Moore

The Michener Art Museum is celebrating the legacy of Bucks County art collector Lewis Tanner Moore in a new exhibition, "Yesterday’s Dreams Are Real."Moore (1953-2024) championed the work of Black artists throughout his life, challenging arts institutions to prioritize diversity in their collecting and exhibition practices. On view from Feb. 15 to July 27, the show includes paintings, photographs, sculptures, and works on paper by 35 artists from the collections of Moore and the Michener Art Museum. Cabaret Series Continues With “A Perfumed Woman”

“What’s that whiff? Remember when...?” Singer and storyteller Joanne Halev knows her way around the complex word of flavors and fragrances — and she will tell tales from the mysterious, intoxicating, and passionate world of international fragrance creation in her cabaret, “A
Perfumed Woman,” Sunday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at Bucks County Playhouse. Halev brings her potent mix of storytelling and song as part of a new cabaret series held in the historic Playhouse Barn just across the courtyard from the main theater in New Hope.
