The Absolute Must For A Great Golf Swing
Today, we're diving into one of the most crucial aspects of your game...

Your grip.
It’s like, if you think about it, the only thing connecting you to your golf club is your hands.
Imagine trying to throw a spiral football without knowing how to hold it right, or throwing a curveball without gripping the baseball correctly.
That’s exactly what happens if you don’t have your golf grip dialed in.

Your grip is your foundation. It’s the only point of contact with the club, and it plays a huge role in how well you can control your shots.
Now, if your grip isn’t up to par, you’re setting yourself up for a tough time on the course.
When you watch the pros, you’ll see all kinds of grips right? – strong grips, weak grips, neutral grips.
Some guys use their palms more, while others use their fingers. But for us, we want to create a grip that gives you the best chance of consistent, solid shots.

You’ve probably heard the term “strong grip” before. Contrary to what it sounds like, a strong grip isn’t about squeezing the life out of your club.
It’s about the positioning of your hands.
So, forget what you’ve read in those Golf Digest articles about holding the grip like you’re cradling a bird.
Let’s get real – someone like Brooks Koepka has a grip strength that’s off the charts. His idea of a firm grip is like a 5 out of 10 for most of us!
But here’s the key…
You can have a firm grip while keeping your arms and shoulders relaxed. Think of it like a drummer holding sticks securely while still having loose, fast arms.
Practice These Grip Fundamentals:
1. Find Your Neutral & Lead Hand Placement:
To nail that neutral grip, just let the club hang loose, get your lead hand so the wrist matches the clubface and grip it with your fingers, not your palm, then stack your thumb short and lined up with your index finger so you’re not gripping it like a crayon-wielding kid.
2. Right Hand Position:
Alright, to keep it tight, grip the club with your fingers, not your palm, with that right hand, keeping a firm but chill feel, and make sure the V between your thumb and index finger aims right at your shoulder.
Now, there’s a lot of buzz about having bowed wrists at the top of your swing.
This is only necessary if you have a weak grip.
Players like Colin Morikawa have weak grips and therefore need those bowed wrists.
Others like Zach Johnson have stronger grips and don’t need that wrist position.
With a proper grip, you set the foundation for a consistent and effective swing.
It influences your wrist angles and overall control throughout the swing. So, take the time to get this right.
Whenever you’re practicing, check your grip.
It’s one of those things that, once you have it down, will pay off big time.
