In other reports, police arrested a Langhorne man for DUI after he was observed driving the wrong way on Centre Avenue.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Newtown Borough Police are looking into an incident with a gun that happened at a borough bar in February.

According to Chief James Sabath, a 32-year-old Churchville man took out a gun and was waving it around in a bar room of patrons.

“We are in the process of investigating,” said the chief during his monthly report to borough council on Wednesday.

Also in February, Chief Sabath reported that police arrested a 32-year-old Langhorne man for DUI after he was found driving the wrong way on Centre Avenue.

Police also responded to two well-being checks in February, one with a positive outcome and one that did not end well.

During the first check, the chief reported that police found a 70-year-old woman deceased from natural causes.

“We did have a successful case. There was an 82-year-old woman. When police got there we found her semi-conscious on the floor where she had been for a couple of days. She’s back and doing well,” said the chief.

“I would encourage anyone who wants us to check in on the well-being of someone - a relative or somebody else - we’re happy to do it. And hopefully, when we get there we have a good ending.”

The chief also reported that borough police are participating in an aggressive driving enforcement wave between now and April 27.

The enforcement wave will focus on distracted driving, speeding and work zone awareness. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or other aggressive actions will also be cited.

The enforcement is part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is funded by part of
PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Looking ahead, the department will again be participating in the countywide prescription drug take-back collection on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can drop off their unused or expired medications at the fire station on Washington Avenue.
