NEWTOWN, PA — A Black Lives Matter protest against the death of George Floyd will be held Saturday in Newtown. Protesters say they'll be at W. Washington Ave and N. Sycamore St at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Floyd, 46, died on May 25 after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by Minneapolis Police Department officer Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes while three other officers looked on. Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd's death, and three other officers are facing aiding and abetting charges.
His death has sparked protests nationwide, including in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, and beyond.

"It is Newtown's time to stand up and join the fight against the systemic, blatant racism and injustices that police have gotten away with across the United States of America. To be complacent and silent during is to choose the side of the oppressor," an event page on Facebook said.
Organizers are asking all attendees to wear masks.
