Why are you seeking elective office?

I am running for re-election to the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors for some of the same reasons that I’ve been involved in girls’ softball and the Scouts. I am running because I care deeply about Newtown Township, and have for many years. Since I was a student at Council Rock “North” where I met my wife, I have wanted to live here in Newtown.
After college, we worked hard to be able to move back to Newtown so that we could raise our children here, and we are so glad we did. Newtown Township is a wonderful place to live, work and own a business. I want to continue to fight for the Township to prevent overdevelopment, hold the line on taxes and promote strong small businesses that are the backbone of our community. I feel that if I don't continue on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors, Newtown Township will continue down the road of acquiescing to developers, losing our open spaces to new development causing more traffic and further losing our "small town" character. I also feel that there needs to be at least one voice (preferably more) to continue to fight for better fiscal management and an end to the tax increases that we have been seeing for the last three years.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Sadly, I have seen many changes since my days at Council Rock “North.” One that stands out is what I consider to be overdevelopment. In my time on the Board of Supervisors, I have fought to prevent overdevelopment, including being the only NO vote on the redevelopment of the “Village at Newtown.” The results of losing that vote can be seen in all of the new buildings, traffic and lack of parking that can be seen daily.

I believe that it is the responsibility of the Board of Supervisors to fight as hard as we can against developers and to stick rigidly, when possible, to our zoning ordinances to fight and defend our Township from the overdevelopment that has been changing the character of our Town for so many years.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The primary difference between my opponent and myself is experience and history of public service in Newtown. I have been a Newtown Township Supervisor for 7 years. During that time I’ve been a regular Member, Assistant Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chair of the Board. In addition, for many years, I have had a number of leadership roles in a number of community service organizations, Including, President of the Newtown Rotary Club twice and the Exec Committee of American Legion Morell Smith Post 440. It is within these organizations that I have also had the opportunity to serve in non leadership roles performing many service projects in the Newtown Township area.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.

I am also concerned about the explosion of spending by the current Board that has drastically increased our property taxes. In the last two years the Board has voted REPEATEDLY to raise our property taxes. We need responsible fiscal management to stop reckless spending and harmful tax increases.
Also, we need to ensure that we remove roadblocks to opening, maintaining and growing a business in Newtown. Partnering with local businesses, having open and clear lines of communications with them will help make our community more business friendly.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I was elected to the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors and have been in that role, in total, for the past seven years. In that time I have been a Member, Assistant Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chair of the Board. My tenure on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors is evidence that I can handle the job.

The best advice ever shared with me was:

Do your best, do what's right and know that whatever the outcome, you did.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I have a history of community service related activities going back to my time at West Chester University where I was a member of a service fraternity called The Friar's Society. Since then I have continued to try and give back to my community when and where I was able. My focus, when I had younger kids was around their activities in softball and the Scouts and Township Skateboard Park Committee. As my kids got older and I gained more time back I got involved in other Township Committee's and the Newtown Rotary and American Legion. All of these endeavors, including being elected to the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors I have done as a service to my community. I am currently seeking re-election so I can continue to serve Newtown Township and for no other reason. I would be honored if my fellow Newtown Township residents would continue to let me serve.
