Ceremonies And Events To Mark Sept. 11th Anniversary In Bucks Co.

Eighteen residents from Bucks County, including nine from Lower Makefield, were among those killed during the attacks.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Bucks County will join the nation this week with ceremonies and events to mark the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and in the skies above western Pennsylvania.

On Sept. 11, 2001 the nation was forever changed by a series of unprecedented events. That day almost 3,000 lost their lives in a series of targeted attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City, The Pentagon in Washington D.C., and in the skies above Western Pennsylvania.

Eighteen residents from Bucks County including nine from Lower Makefield were among those killed during the attacks, representing the highest number of casualties of any municipality in Pennsylvania.

Warrington Township

A Patriots Day Remembrance Ceremony will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Warrington Township Building, 852 Easton Road, Warrington 18976. The solemn ceremony will provide an opportunity for the community to come together in reflection and remembrance. The event is organized by the Warrington Township Veteran Affairs Committee.

Washington Crossing

On September 11, 2025, Washington Crossing National Cemetery will host a volunteer event to commemorate Patriots Day of Service. Beginning at 10 a.m., volunteers will participate in headstone cleaning and beautification efforts to honor service members at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Upper Makefield. Registration is available through Carry The Load, a partner non-profit organization.

Lower Makefield

The Garden of Reflection, Pennsylvania's official 9-11 Memorial, will commemorate the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 with a ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Memorial Park on Woodside Road.

The 9-11 Memorial Garden of Reflection was created and funded by families of the 9-11 heroes and was built to honor their memory with twin fountains cascading toward the sky and glass panels etched with the names of the close to 3,000 who lost their lives that day.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Garden will host a morning ceremony with the tolling of a bell marking the chronological events of that fateful morning. The ceremony will commence at 8:30 a.m. and last about an hour.

The memorial will be open throughout the day for personal reflection and an opportunity for the public to stroll along the garden pathways and remember the lives lost and the tragedy of that day.

Warminster

The Hartsville Fire Company invites the community to a 9/11 memorial service on Thursday, Sept. 11 beginning at 7 p.m. at Station 93. The service will honor all the victims of September 11, 2001 and the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives responding to the call for help. The station is located at 1195 York Road, Warminster.

Doylestown

The 9/11 Travis Manion Heroes Run steps off on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium at Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown.

The event includes a 5K Run, 5K Ruck (carrying a backpack or some kind of weight on the back), a 1-Mile Fun Run, 5K Virtual Run and a 5K Shadow Event.

The Doylestown 1-mile run/walk is dedicated to the memory of 1st Lt Colby Umbrell. 1st Lt. Colby J. Umbrell died from wounds sustained while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom on May 3, 2007 in Musayyib, Iraq; he was 26. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment,
4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was a 1999 graduate of Central Bucks East High School and a 2004 graduate of Johns Hopkins University. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

The 5K Ruck is dedicated to the memory of Captain Connor Bednarzyk who was killed on September 7, 2018 during a training mission near Ft. Benning, Georgia. The Doylestown native was an inspiring and proud product of the Buckingham community. He spent his elementary and secondary educational years in the Central Bucks School District and graduated from Central Bucks High School East in 2011 where he was the recipient of the Colby Umbrell award for academics and individual character. Connor graduated Penn State University Army ROTC and was in the top 10 percent of all ROTC graduates throughout the U.S. As a student and Army Officer, he embraced his Buckingham roots by demonstrating leadership, compassion, and inclusiveness.

The Heroes Run is held to unite communities to honor the heroes of 9/11 and the service members who stepped up in the wars that followed. "Join the community in fulfilling the promise we made more than 20 years ago to never forget," said event organizers.
