Council Rock To Close Schools Early Wednesday Due To Ida

Ida could bring up to 6 inches of rainfall to Eastern Pennsylvania by Thursday morning, with forecasters warning of "widespread" flooding.

NEWTOWN, PA — Council Rock students will be dismissed early from school Wednesday as the remnants of Ida bear down on Bucks County. Council Rock administrators called for the early dismissal based on advice from Emergency Management Services.

High school students were dismissed at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, with middle school students to leave at 11:30 a.m. and elementary students to leave at 12:15 p.m., officials said. The school district also canceled all afterschool and evening activities scheduled Wednesday.

Ida, which made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane Sunday in Louisiana, could bring up to 6 inches of rainfall to Eastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey by Thursday morning. Forecasters are warning of “widespread” flooding to the north and west of Philadelphia.
