Marcell Projected To Win 178th District Race: Unofficial Results

Voters in the 178th House Legislative District cast votes in Tuesday's general election for state representative.

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — State Representative Kristin Marcell is projected to win a second term as state representative in the 178th Legislative District.

The Wrightstown Republican faced a challenge on Election Day from Democrat Paul Lang Jr., a retired business owner from Northampton Township.

A former Council Rock School Board member, Marcell won election in 2021 taking office in January 2022. During her re-election campaign, she touted her bipartisan record, authoring and passing legislation reducing the cost of prescription drugs, bringing attention to the dangerous drug known as "tranq," addressing "porch piracy" and voting for record funding for education.

Lang had made preserving the reproductive rights for women a cornerstone of his campaign. "Our state is currently pro choice in the legislature. However, Democrats only control it by one vote," he said. "We need to prevent the ever increasing erosion of the liberties guaranteed under the Constitution."

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Marcell won 61 percent of the vote while Lang collected 38 percent. Here are the unofficial numbers:

The 178th Legislative District includes Upper Southampton, Warwick Township, Wrightstown Township and part of Northampton Township.
