Labor Day Rally Planned Along Newtown Bypass
The "May Day" rally will commemorate the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement, according to organizers.
NEWTOWN, PA — A rally will take place in front of the offices of U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick at 1717 Langhorne-Newtown Road on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The "May Day" rally will commemorate the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement, according to organizer Terry Kiely.
"We are demanding a country that puts our families over Trump’s fortunes — public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, housing over homelessness and an end to federal occupation of our cities and towns," Kiely tells Patch.

"Trump and the Republican Party are creating a race to the bottom - undermining workers' rights, judicial independence, the U.S. Constitution, our national security and dignity itself," he said. "They want to erase labor rights, break our unions, and silence immigrant and citizen voices. This is a war on working people — and we will not stand down. Using the principles of nonviolence and peaceful protest, we will stand together and stand strong."
Kiely said he expects several representatives from local labor unions to speak at the event and more than 100 participants to attend.

“Trump is turning our military into his domestic security force. By diverting tens of thousands of soldiers to major U.S. cities he is degrading our military readiness for deterring our foreign enemies,” said Kiely. “Trump is breaking his oath to our Constitution by attacking our right to free speech and our legal right to due process.”
