Chris Meyer, the owner of Newtown Bagel, revealed plans in 2025 to double the size of its shop at the Newtown Plaza, a small strip shopping center located across from Wendy's.
The shop received conditional use approval to expand its operations into the former 1800 square foot bank next door. Last past spring, C&N Bank closed its branch at the plaza and relocated to the Newtown Business Commons.

Newtown Bagel is planning to expand its business at the Newtown Plaza on Swamp Road.
The expansion will double the size of the shop from 1200 to 3,000 square feet, allowing the shop to expand seating from 10 to 24 seats and add a coffee center and barista.
“We’ve been landlocked for almost 25 years at 1200 square feet,” said Meyer. “When C&N moved, it was an opportunity to move into that space and add some seating and expand our coffee selections for our customers.”
As part of the expansion, the shop plans to hire several new employees bringing the total number up to six.
Vecchia Osteria by Pasquale also received approvals in 2025 to expand its operations at the Newtown Depot Shopping Center.
The restaurant plans to turn an 500 square feet of space next door into event space for the restaurant. The expansion will add 24 seats to the restaurant for larger events and gatherings.
The Palino family, who have owned and operated Vecchia Osteria by Pasquale since 2009, have built a reputation for authentic Italian dishes and endeared themselves to the community with their food and hospitality.
