NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Pride Flag will officially be raised at the Newtown Borough Hall on Saturday, June 7, beginning at noon. The community is invited to attend the brief ceremony.

The flag will remain on display next to the American flag at the borough hall throughout Pride Month, which is observed in the United States during June and coincides with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots, a series of protests in New York City that led to the modern gay and lesbian rights movement.

Newtown Borough was among the first municipalities in Pennsylvania to adopt an anti-discrimination ordinance supporting "all individuals in accordance with their fullest capacities" and "regardless of actual or perceived race, color, sex, religion, ancestry, genetic information, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression."
