The historic Newtown Theatre will present “The Songs of Bob Dylan” on Saturday, March 26 at 8 p.m. This one-night-only concert will feature local band Highway 61 Revival paying tribute to one of music’s most legendary singer/songwriters.

The self-described “Dylan geeks” who make up Highway 61 Revival have been celebrating their hero’s birthday with shows each year for the past seven years. This will be their first show in Newtown.

“When we launched the band in 2014, the concept was to play once a year on or around Bob Dylan’s birthday,” guitarist Brad Hinton says. “We would each choose five or six songs and trade lead vocals. Our goal was to not repeat any songs. We figured out after the first six years we had played over 200 of his songs.”

At the March 26 show, the group will play two sets of Dylan songs, with each bandmember taking turns leading songs.

“There are some people who might not appreciate Dylan’s voice,” Hinton says diplomatically. “At the Newtown concert, we’ll be singing in our own voices, not trying to imitate Dylan. People who attend will hear a variety of songs that cover Dylan’s entire career. We do all the classics like Mr. Tambourine Man, but we also include deep cuts that people may not have heard in a while or not heard at all. Anyone who loves great songwriting, folk, rock, or live music will love this show.”

Tickets are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com concerts Beer, wine, and canned cocktails will be available for purchase at the theatre before the show and during intermission. The theatre is located at 120 N. State Street in Newtown Borough.
