No 'Traditional Snow Day' Planned For Council Rock Thursday

If Council Rock schools are forced to close Thursday for in-person instruction due to severe weather, classes will still be held virtually.

NEWTOWN, PA — If Council Rock schools are forced to close Thursday for in-person instruction due to severe weather, classes will still be held remotely and attendance will be checked, Superintendent Robert Fraser told parents in an email Tuesday morning.

His announcement comes as southeastern Pennsylvania braces for a winter storm that is expected to bring at least a foot of snow to parts of the region starting Wednesday, which happens to be the day of the week when Council Rock switches to remote learning.

Fraser said he wants classes to be held virtually on Thursday as well so the district won't have to make up for it later in the year.

"We will want for Thursday to count toward our 180 days so we do not need to make it up in June, AND we will also want for our kiddos to have a chance to get outside and play in the snow if they're able to do so. Hopefully this model accomplishes the best of both worlds," Fraser said.

Students will not need to log in at any particular time on Thursday. Attendance will be taken via an exit ticket, he said.

"This flexibility is important because if the time becomes right to build a snowman, make some snow angels, or throw some snowballs, we want our students to be able to do so," Fraser said.

Some students in Upper Bucks County may get a little more time in the snow, as the Central Bucks School District announced it will hold a traditional snow day if schools are closed Thursday due to severe weather.
