Police Nab Suspected Car Thieves, Make DUI Arrests In Newtown Twp.

Police are also investigating the theft of a gun, retail thefts at township stores, and a hacked computer that cost an elderly woman $15K.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Feb. 7 and Feb. 13:

February 7

  • At 8:45 p.m. police were dispatched to the Newtown Bypass and Penns Trail for the report of an unresponsive Jeep Grand Cherokee driver. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver refused to submit blood for chemical testing. Charges are pending.

  • At approximately 1:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Mazda SUV for committing a vehicle code violation at Sycamore Street and Richboro Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 9 a.m. police were notified by its license plate recognition camera system of a stolen vehicle heading westbound on the Newtown Bypass. The vehicle - a black Hyundai Tucson - was reported as stolen out of Trenton, N.J. Officers began surveying the area and located the car in the parking lot of McCaffrey’s Market. Officers initiated a felony traffic stop, and as a result of the investigation, three male occupants were taken into custody without incident and charged with receiving stolen property. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized from one of the subjects, and charges are pending evidence results. One of the subjects also had an active arrest warrant from the Somerset, New Jersey Sheriff’s Office.
  • Police responded to a Newtown Township home around 5:15 p.m. for a firearm theft report. The investigation is ongoing.

February 10

  • Police were dispatched to the Lululemon store at the Village at Newtown around 2 p.m. for a retail theft. Police said a man stole merchandise totaling $200. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Police were dispatched to Acme Markets at 5:05 p.m. for a retail theft. The total value of loss was under $200. As a result of an investigation, police recovered all of the stolen merchandise and escorted the subject off the premises.

February 11

  • At approximately 10:45 a.m. police were dispatched to C&N Bank on Swamp Road for a fraud report. The investigation is ongoing.

February 12

  • At 11 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Honda sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the 7-11 on South Sycamore Street. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug equipment were discovered and seized as evidence and a woman was arrested. Charges are pending evidence results.

February 13

  • Police were contacted around 8:30 p.m. for a fraud involving an elderly Newtown Township victim whose computer was hacked. The total value of loss was $15,000. The investigation is ongoing.
  • At approximately 10 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Honda sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Richboro and Mill Pond Roads. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug equipment were discovered and seized as evidence, and a man was arrested in connection. Charges are pending evidence results.
