Prescription Pill Found In Newtown Child's Halloween Candy: Cops

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Local police have issued a warning after prescription medication was found in a child's Halloween candy obtained while trick-or-treating in Newtown Township.

Newtown Township Police are asking residents to carefully check their children's candy in light of the incident. According to police, a clear plastic baggie containing a single prescription medication tablet was mixed in with the candy, which was likely obtained in the County Bend development.

Police believe the pill is anti-anxiety medication.

"The medication was not stored inside of any candy or candy wrapper and at this time, police do not have any information that any candy may have been tampered with," a statement from police said.

The incident was reported to authorities the day after Halloween.

As of Saturday, police said this is the only known incident of its kind. However, "out of an abundance of caution, we are asking parents or guardians to carefully check their child's Halloween candy and report any suspicious findings."
