Snyder Addresses Tax Proposals
This is a press release regarding a correction on a previously published article.

NEWTOWN, PA — This is a correction to a previously published article.
A previous published article mentioned that Elen Snyder, a candidate for Newtown Township Supervisor, was mentioned as working with candidate David Oxley on tax initiatives related to the Township. Ms. Snyder does not having anything to do with these plans, which pertains to last year, not this year.
Here is the full press release from Ms. Snyder:

Yesterday, (10/29/2021) an article published in the Patch falsely stated that I was somehow involved in the current budgeting process being carried out by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors, and that I ‘supported’ a potential tax increase for the 2022 budget.
NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH

These are the facts:
1. I am a candidate for a seat on the Board of Supervisors, along with David Oxley, who is currently a Township Supervisor.
2. As a candidate, I am not privy to the proposed budget until it is published for public view. That has not happened yet, so I have not even seen the budget.
3. Further, I have not been involved in any discussions concerning the budget with the Supervisors either publicly or privately.
4. As a private citizen and Newtown resident, of course I have my concerns about any tax increase, and would need a lot more information in order to have an opinion about whether it was necessary.
5. If elected supervisor on November 2, I would have an opportunity to re-open the approved budget and recommend changes to it to decrease spending where I thought it was important to do so.
6. As a candidate my position on taxes is clear… Newtown has one of the lowest property tax rates in bucks county and I intend to keep it that way. However I won’t avoid considering necessary changes to spending and revenues to maintain or community standard of living and safety; rather than allow us to approach the brink of bankruptcy as our past Republican boards have done.
7. I am first and foremost an environmentalist. I am sworn to protect the beauty and health of our community, and will work tirelessly to stop over building in both commercial and residential areas. I had no say in the action surrounding the Arcadia development plans.
All of the big development you see now was brought to us by past Boards of Supervisors with Republican majorities they were approved before the current board came into office.
Thank you for the opportunity to clear the air about my involvement (or lack thereof) in the current history of Newtown Township, and I hope I have your vote on November 2!
