NEWTOWN, PA — Iron Hill Brewery may not be dead and gone, after all.

The former Iron Hill Brewery at the Village at Newtown could reopen as Iron Hill or be rebranded as another concept, multiple media sources are reporting.

Jeff Crivello, the former CEO of Famous Dave's BBQ, is in the process of acquiring the Newtown location and nine other Iron Hill locations, including Center City, West Chester, Huntingdon Valley, Wilmington, Lancaster, Hershey, Rehoboth Beach, and two locations in South Carolina.

The announcement comes just weeks after the gastropub chain abruptly announced the closure of all of its locations, including Newtown, in late September.

The sale came through as a result of approval this past week in the New Jersey Bankruptcy Court, according to the reports.

A timeline for when the restaurants may reopen in some form remains unclear. Iron Hill had been a staple throughout eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware for years, ever since its first location opened in the region in 1996.

Within the past decade its reach had expanded to numerous locations throughout the suburbs. Iron Hill did not disclose the exact reason for its closure, though they had been struggling in recent years and had already closed several of their establishments, including in Phoenixville nearly a year ago.

Increasing competition in the gastropub space, particularly from the rise of microbreweries often partnering with celebrated food trucks, could have played a role.
