Road And Bridge Detours Continue This Week In The Newtown Area
Detours will impact local traffic on Lindenhurst Road in Newtown Township and on Centre Avenue in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township.

NEWTOWN, PA — Local drivers are reminded that detours remain in affect this week on Lindenhurst Road in Newtown Township and on Centre Avenue in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township.
Lindenhurst Road will be closed and detoured for utility work weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Route 332 (Newtown Bypass) and Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road) through early April.
During the closure, motorists are directed to use Route 332 (Newtown Bypass), Durham
Road, and Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road).

Local access will be maintained up to the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
Work also continues on the historic Centre Avenue Bridge in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township. Crews have removed the old pedestrian walkway on the bridge structure and are in the process of replacing it with a new walkway.

The work, which began on December 28, is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
In the meantime, the bridge will remain closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week between State Street and Sycamore Street and traffic will be detoured to Washington Avenue and Jefferson Street.
Built in 1796, the bridge over Newtown Creek carries about 4500 vehicles a day.
