Season's First Chance Of Snow Appears In PA Forecast

A cold weather pattern is expected through mid-November, bringing lower than average temperatures and even the possibility of snow.

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Fall is in full force, and soon it will feel like winter in Eastern Pennsylvania. A cold weather pattern is expected to continue through mid-November, bringing lower than average temperatures and even a chance of snow showers, forecasters say.

"Cold temperatures have swept eastward behind a cold front to start the month, and the upper-level weather pattern will be favorable for additional blasts of cold air to infiltrate the U.S. into mid-November," according to information from the Weather Channel.

According to forecasters, this pattern will bring multiple chances of snow showers throughout mid-November. The first chance comes overnight Thursday into Friday, when the National Weather Service said there is a 50 percent chance of rain and snow showers.

The pattern has resulted in a plunge in the jet stream over portions of the central and eastern U.S., "which will allow colder than average temperatures to dive southward at times through the second full week of the month," the network said.

A blast of cold air will arrive in the Philadelphia region later in the week, causing temperatures to be 10 to 25 degrees below average. Temperatures in Philadelphia region could plunge to the low 20s on Friday.

A third round of cold air is predicted next week, but its severity isn't yet known.
