SPEAKeasy Brings Special Evening Of Immersive Storytelling To Newtown
The special evening spotlights a rotating cast of local poets, songwriters, and storytellers in front of a live audience.

NEWTOWN, PA — The public is invited to experience the art of storytelling performed live on Friday, Oct. 24 at ArtWRKD in Newtown Borough.
The event is part of the gallery's SPEAKeasy series, which spotlights a rotating cast of local poets, songwriters, and storytellers in front of a live audience.
According to organizers, the "immersive event is perfect for a night out" at the ArtWRKD Exhibition Space located above Triple Sun Spirits on South State Street in Newtown Borough

The Friday evening SPEAKeasy features Newtown-based writer Elizabeth Austin. Elizabeth has been featured in The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, and Time Magazine.
Austin has been a guest on podcasts, penned essays for newsletters, and contributed to anthologies. She is co-editor of the forthcoming anthology, "Root Cause: Stories of Health, Harm, and Reclaiming Our Humanity in an Epidemic of Loneliness."

Austin has been awarded several residencies and workshops, including Sewanee, Hedgebrook, Turning Points, and Writers Workshop Dublin. She has presented at conferences and symposiums and given talks at various schools, from elementary to University levels. She holds an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
In addition, Baron Tiger will spin its narratives filled with dreamy instrumentation and melodies that feel equally nostalgic and new.
Baron Tiger is Larissa Hopwood, Melissa Rinker, and Greg McGarvey. Their songs, written over many years and through several tumultuous relationships and major life events, have grown and found their home in this trio with sisterly harmonies and lush slide guitar.
The Bucks County Writers Group will also be showcased, featuring pieces of poetry and flash fiction.
SPEAKeasy is a collaboration between gallerist and ArtWRKD curator Ashara Shapiro and Joe Montone, the founder of Stage United. The duo also co-hosting the evening.
The next SPEAKeasy will be held on Friday, Dec. 12. Watch for the lineup of participants.
