NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A teenager faces felony aggravated assault charges after he stabbed his mother's boyfriend with a kitchen knife during a confrontation at a Newtown Township home.

The 17-year-old boy is free on $100,000 bail after being charged with one count of aggravated assault (attempt to cause injury with extreme indifference), a first-degree felony, and one count of aggravated assault (attempt to cause injury with a deadly weapon), a second-degree felony.

When police arrived at the house, they found the mother and boyfriend waiting for their arrival. The boyfriend was bleeding from multiple stab and slash wounds, police said.

Police said the mother did not know where her son was, but speculated that he may still be in the house. After entering the house, police observed blood stains on a bed in the master bedroom of the house, but did not find the teen.

A few minutes later, another officer responding to the scene was flagged down by the teenager who was several blocks away from the house on Hidden Valley Lane.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the teen told police the boyfriend "was trying to choke me out. He was drunk. He was fighting with my mom." He also told police that the boyfriend "had been violent in the past and I will do anything to protect my mom."

According to the affidavit, the mother and boyfriend were in bed arguing when the teen heard the commotion from his downstairs bedroom, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and went upstairs with the intention of scaring the boyfriend. During a confrontation, the teen sprayed the boyfriend in the face with a can of bug spray. He also pulled out a small knife and began stabbing the boyfriend, according to court records.

The mother intervened, separating the two, taking the knife from her son, and escorting her boyfriend to the front of the house, where they waited for police and emergency crews to arrive.

The man was taken to St. Mary Medical Center where he was treated for six knife wounds, the most serious was on his right forehead and right eye. He also sustained wounds on his left shoulder, left bicep, and upper back.

The teenager was arraigned before Judge Stacy Wertman who set bail at $100,000, 10 percent. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18 before Judge Michael Petrucci in Newtown.
