Tractor Trailer Operator Charged With DUI In Upper Makefield

When officers questioned him about his driving, the New Jersey man said it was "on point," according to police.

UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A truck driver was under the influence of alcohol when he struck an unoccupied vehicle on River Road earlier this month, according to the Upper Makefield Township Police Department.

Victor Noel Cruz, 34, of Mount Holly, New Jersey, faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, and numerous traffic code violations following the April 5 traffic stop.

Cruz was reportedly weaving through traffic while carrying a forklift on River Road in Washington Crossing, at one point hitting an unoccupied vehicle, police said.

Officers caught up with Cruz on River Road near Lurgan Road. He told police that he was "extremely tired and confused, " police said. When questioned about his erratic driving, Cruz reportedly told officers that he had been driving since 8 a.m., and that his driving was "on point."

Cruz had a tough time "comprehending what occurred when he was in control of his truck and trailer," police said. He also denied hitting any vehicles.

After performing field sobriety tests, officers determined that Cruz was driving under the influence of alcohol. After searching his vehicle to try and locate a driver's license and paperwork, they found multiple empty beer cans, and when asked about them, Cruz said they were left there by another driver, police said.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for May 24.
