PENNSYLVANIA — Day to day coronavirus statistics continue to fluctuate in Pennsylvania, as 35 new deaths were reported in Pennsylvania Tuesday. The state reported just three deaths Monday.

In addition, the state announced 828 new cases. The statewide total of cases is now 120,281.

This comes the day following the lowest number of new coronavirus cases in a month on Monday, when 601 positive cases announced.

Of the new cases that are reported, they are increasingly in younger age groups, especially in the 19 to 24-year-old age range, authorities said. In southeastern Pennsylvania, that age group accounted for five percent of all cases in April. As of Aug. 11, they comprise nearly 17 percent of all cases. Similar increases are general across the state.

Despite the increase in cases and deaths Tuesday, looking at things on a weekly or monthly scale continues to show a more accurate picture of the virus, which has been successfully slowed in Pennsylvania, unlike in many other states.

Additionally, the state's percent percent-positivity rate on coronavirus tests, increasingly referenced as an important metric, has dropped from 4.6 percent to 4.1 percent, which is an encouraging number, officials said.

Still, 17 different counties statewide have an "elevated" percent-positivity rate, which is considered by WHO to be anything over five percent.

In a statement, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said that keeping case numbers down was critical as the fall approaches and schools work to find a way to get students back in classrooms.
