After Dropping Out Of HS For His Family, Norristown Student Back On Track
As a Norristown high schooler, Noah Spence faced an impossible situation: to support his family, he had to postpone his education.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Growing up in Norristown, Noah Spence faced a situation that would be simply unimaginable for children in nearby school districts: dropping out of high school to make sure his family stayed fed and sheltered.
But that's just what he did. Noah worked a full time job to help keep his family on their feet, ending his education early.
Noah said the move left him "mentally drained" and uncertain what would happen in the future. After years of hard work, when he and his family were finally in a position for Noah to be able to return to school, he wasn't sure where to start.

Fortunately his sister knew about a school called YouthBuild Philly, a charter school that partners with discount retailer Burlington and specializes in getting students like Noah back on track. So far, so good.
“I felt the love and positive energy the moment I stepped foot into YouthBuild," Noah said. "It feels like home."

Noah, who moved from Norristown to Philadelphia, is now a student in the Class of 2023, and will graduate in June. He's credited YouthBuild staff with his continued success.
"This is by far the best school I have attended and it’s because of the amazing staff and the positive atmosphere they create," he added.
YouthBuild is located on 1231 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia.
To support YouthBuild and Burlington's efforts, donations will be accepted to Burlington stores through May 15.
