KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — A sinkhole has once again opened up on Route 202 in King of Prussia, leading to a lane closure that will bring additional traffic to the area.

The deep depression in the pavement is in the left northbound lane and has impacted the roadway between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard.

It's the same area that's been plagued by potholes for the past year. Southbound lane closures are expected at some point on Friday as well.

Lane closures allow "PennDOT's contractor to excavate the area, pinpoint the open void, backfill the hole to pavement elevation using flowable fill, install a subbase and binder, and pave and restripe the highway to safely reopen it to traffic," a spokesperson for PennDOT said in a statement.

The exact same stretch of road was shut down due to sinkholes in July and December of 2023. Officials believe there is limestone under the surface, which can wear away and destabilize the surface when flooded with water from heavy storms.

PennDOT says that a "comprehensive sinkhole remediation project" is slated for some point this summer.
