Code Blue Extended In Montgomery County

Frigid temperatures will continue overnight in the local area.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Frigid temperatures will continue overnight in the local area, leading Montgomery County to extend the standing Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency.

The warning is now in place through 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Nov. 18.

Temperatures will drop into the mid thirties in many parts of the region Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service, with rain possible into the early morning hours.

Code Blues are issued when the wind chill may dip below 30 degrees and present life threatening conditions to individuals at risk, including the elderly, the sickened, and those experiencing homelessness.

A Code Blue declaration allows the county to marshal additional resources for residents. If you know of someone who needs emergency shelter, call the Your Way Home Call Center at 610-278-3522.

The county offers the following tips to residents:

  • Check on elderly friends and neighbors frequently to ensure that their homes are adequately heated
  • Make sure your car is winterized with antifreeze, a full tank of gas, properly inflated tires, and is stocked with an emergency kit
  • Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Wear appropriate clothing and avoid prolonged exposure when going outdoors in winter weather
  • Limit pets' time outdoors during extreme temperatures
  • Report power outages directly to your utility company; do not call 9-1-1
