Code Blue Warning Issued Again In Montgomery County

For the second time this week, authorities believe potentially lethal weather is headed into the region.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Authorities in Montgomery County have declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for the second time this week.

The warning is in place from 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16 to 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17.

Sunday night will see a low in the low to mid 30s around Montgomery County, with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour possible at points, according to the National Weather Service.

Code Blues are issued when the wind chill may dip below 30 degrees and present life threatening conditions to individuals at risk, including the elderly, the sickened, and those experiencing homelessness.

A Code Blue declaration allows the county to marshal additional resources for residents. If you know of someone who needs emergency shelter, call the Your Way Home Call Center at 610-278-3522.

The county offered the following tips to residents:

  • Check on elderly friends and neighbors frequently to ensure that their homes are adequately heated
  • Make sure your car is winterized with antifreeze, a full tank of gas, properly inflated tires, and is stocked with an emergency kit
  • Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Wear appropriate clothing and avoid prolonged exposure when going outdoors in winter weather
  • Limit pets' time outdoors during extreme temperatures
  • Report power outages directly to your utility company; do not call 9-1-1
