Convicted Sex Offender Caught Lying on Gun Background Check, Police Say

Julius Clark Cuthbertson, 80, of Plymouth Meeting, was arrested after he allegedly lied on a background check while trying to purchase a handgun from a Skippack gun store.

A convicted sex offender from Plymouth Meeting is facing a third-degree felony charge after he allegedly lied on a background check in order to purchase a handgun from a Skippack gun store.

According to the Times Herald, Julius Clark Cuthbertson, 80, has been charged with "making a materially false written statement in violation of the sale or transfer of firearms," as well as unsworn falsification to authorities. The incident originally occurred on Oct. 12, 2012.

Cuthbertson pleaded guilty in 2007 to three counts of possession of child pornography, and was sentenced to 23 months probation, the report states. He is registered as a Tier 3 sex offender on the Pennsylvania Megan's Law website, according to the report.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 28 before Judge Augustine.
