PHILADELPHIA, PA — It is the year of the City of Brotherly Love. Two months after the Phillies punched their ticket to the World Series, the Eagles find themselves back on one of the biggest stages in sports. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 to win the NFC Championship Sunday afternoon and will return to the Super Bowl.

From the early going, it was clear this was going to be no replay of the legendary 2018 NFC Championship domination of the Minnesota Vikings in 2018. Nor was it going to be the raucous drubbing of the New York Giants in the divisional game a week ago.

Instead, the Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts-led operation was surgical from the start. An early 13-play, five minute drive ended in a Miles Sanders touchdown to put the Birds up 7-0. Another 20-play, six minute drive ended in another Sanders TD run in the 2nd quarter, putting the Birds up 14-7.

And from there they didn’t look back, never letting the Niners score again and rallying for a late drive before the half and another massive time eating drive in the third quarter that essentially sealed San Francisco’s fate.

They Eagles will now play the winner of Sunday night’s AFC Championship between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVII.

The Birds also made history with their win and multiple rushing touchdowns. They’re now at 38 rushing TDs including both the regular season and postseason, the most for a franchise ever, according to Sportscenter.

It will mark the second time in five years the Eagles have gone to the Super Bowl. The Eagles will now have two weeks off as the nation takes a breath and penultimate fanfare commences. The Super Bowl will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
