Yesterday my 19 year old daughter ( very well meaning) met a “foster” from a site called getyourpet.com. This site is a direct connection for folks wanting to rehome animals without using a shelter.
The foster described the cat as healthy but coming from a bad situation because her owner had passed away. The foster did not want to meet at her home nor did she want to exchange contact information. I am willing to believe that this Tova woman who lives in the area is in a situation far beyond her ability to manage.
The cat in our care was severely matted and smelled of urine. She was being kept confined in a carrier or cage. I spent 3 hours shaving this poor cat, we see the vet Monday.
According to my daughter this woman has more cats. Again I am willing to believe this is an unfortunate situation and this woman needs help with the cats. That said, her account on the site is suspended and she charged my daughter a $50 “adoption” fee. The woman’s name is Tova, she’s a middle aged person with an accent possibly European. She resides in the area and has “several” more cats to rehome. If anyone comes across posting for Persian cats being rehomed due to owner death I am asking the community to help these cats get the care they need and deserve. I am reporting this to Animal Control and hopefully this woman will be found and the cats removed from her care. Whether this is an unfortunate situation and this woman is not aware of how severe the need for help is or something more nefarious, my only concern is helping the cats.

Jupiter is going to be okay. She has a family of other cats, dogs, and ferrets to live with comfortably now.
