Montco Among PA's Worst Offenders In School Bus Passing, Speeding
New data from the PA court system sheds a dark light on Montgomery County motorists.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Despite public education campaigns and a spate of municipalities adopting new AI-powered stop arm cameras that record violators, drivers are speeding and violating stopped school bus passing laws in Montgomery County like almost nowhere else.
Montgomery County drivers speed more in school zones than anywhere else in the state, according to the data, with the county accounting for a whopping 31.8 percent of all statewide infractions over the past five years.
They're also the second worst stopped school bus violator in Pennsylvania, according to new data released by the state's court system.

A whopping 13.9 percent of all of the school bus violations in the state occurred in Montgomery County over the past five years, including 2020 to 2024. They trail only Allegheny County, which accounted for 17.6 of statewide violations.
The court system's newly released data comes as the 2025-26 school year approaches is only weeks away.

Montgomery County's annual stopped school bus violation numbers have gone down slightly in recent years, with 206 in 2024 and 218 in 2023 significantly down from 282 in 2022. However, the county's 2024 number was still significantly more than neighboring Chester (119), Bucks (94), Delaware (99), and Philadelphia (17) counties.
