Pride Flag Raising Ceremony To Be Held In Montgomery County
The pride flag will be raised up over the Montgomery County Courthouse in a ceremony expressing solidarity with the LGBTQ community.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The Pride flag will be raised up over the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown next month as part of what has become annual celebrations and expressions of solidarity with the LGBTQ community.
The event will take place on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m., coinciding with the start of Pride month.
“As Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, I feel it’s our responsibility to demonstrate inclusiveness and allyship to our LGBTQ friends and neighbors across Montgomery County,” Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila H. Winder said in a statement. “Pride Month is an opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate our diversity as a County, as well as to recognize the hardships and discrimination the LGBTQ community has faced over the decades.”

June 1 is the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York in June 1969 and are widely seen as a catalyst for the LGBTQ movement.
