MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Montgomery County was one of several blue strongholds around the United States that re-elected down-ballot Democratic candidates while turning against the Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ticket on Election Day.

Harris did beat President-elect Donald Trump in Montgomery County, but she earned a shocking 11,300 fewer votes in the county than President Biden did in 2020. Trump, meanwhile, won some 8,000 more votes than he did in the county in 2020, en route to securing Pennsylvania and his second term in the White House.

Harris also lost neighboring Bucks County to Trump, marking the first time in decades a Republican presidential candidate has carried the county.

Trump won 14 municipalities in Montgomery County, while Harris won 47. Trump's victories were, unsurprisingly, in the rural edges, but he also fought competitive battles in high population areas like Limerick, Royersford, Montgomery Township, Lower Providence, and Conshohocken, earning thousands of votes from some of the most area's most solidly blue communities.

Places like Cheltenham, Ambler, Narberth, and Norristown did still turn out in reliably lopsided numbers for Harris, but not to the extent they had for Biden.

About 81 percent of registered voters in Montgomery County turned out for the election, marking a notable drop off from 2020's 84 percent.
