Teen Victim Of Norristown Shooting Was Beloved Basketball Star
Hamid Boyd, who was walking to the store Sunday when he was shot, "brought joy and hope to everyone around him," his family said.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The Norristown community is mourning the loss of a teenage basketball star who was shot and killed on Sunday.
Hamid Boyd, 19, was found on the 1000 block of Powell Street at around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds when first responders arrived.
He was rushed to Jefferson Montgomery Einstein Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No motive for the shooting is known, and circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear. His family said Monday that he was walking home from the store when it happened.
"He was a devoted father to his 2-year-old daughter, and his presence brought joy and hope to everyone around him," Ayana Boyd wrote in a GoFundMe launched to support the family. "Hamid was deeply loved by his grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and even his teachers and staff."

Boyd had just graduated from Martin Luther School, where he had starred on the basketball team. His family said he had been recruited by several Division 1 schools.
"His loss is heartbreaking and has left a void that can never be filled," Ayana Boyd added.
The GoFundMe will support his janaza, an Islamic funeral prayer, and related expenses for his family as they deal with an unimaginable loss. Details on the fundraiser are available online here.
