U.S. 202 Reopens After $22.4 Million Sinkhole Project In Upper Merion
The 9-month closure aimed to provide a "long term" solution to a problem that has plagued the area for years.
UPPER MERION, PA — The northbound lanes of U.S. 202 reopened Tuesday after a lengthy closure as part of a massive sinkhole project in Upper Merion, officials said.
The work was part of a larger $22.4 million project aimed at providing "long term" remediation to a problem that has plagued King of Prussia and the surrounding area for years, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 202 had been shut down from Henderson Road to Saulin Boulevard since Feb. 2025.

Work was further complicated just last week after a water main broke in the area while work was ongoing.
PennDOT said their contractor is using a "limited mobility grouting program" which involves drilling a series of holes in the pavement in a grid pattern.

The drilled holes are then filled with pressurized grout, which is typically a mixture of cement, water, and sand, to stabilize the ground immediately beneath the pavement.
Crews are also working on drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction.
Officials said they anticipate the project to expand to U.S. 202 south in the same area starting at some point in early 2026.
In addition to the 202 area work, PennDOT's project is also focusing on Route 29 in nearby East Whiteland Township, where it runs as Morehall Road.
