A new fast-casual restaurant is in the works for northern end of the Wexford flats.
At Monday’s supervisors meeting, Pine officials gave the green light for a Chipotle Mexican Grill to be located at the former 7-Eleven convenience store at the intersection of Bonnie View Drive and Perry Highway.

Dan Kauffman, an engineer with Wallace & Pancher in Hermitage, said the 2,400 square foot building would not be razed to make way for the new restaurant.

Instead, developers plan to rehab the building, he said. An outside patio and landscaping also will be added to the facility.

Founded by Colorado-based Steve Ells in 1993, Chipotle features a variety of burritos and tacos. The chain is known for its “Food with Integrity” program, which highlights the company’s commitment to serve organic and local produce as well as naturally-raised meats.

The restaurant’s food is put together in an assembly-style production.

Kaufman said he did not have a targeted opening date yet for the restaurant. Construction could begin on the building in the near future.

Assistant Pine Township manager Scott Anderson said the 7-Eleven property, which is owned by Gigliotti Holdings, has been vacant for at least a year.

Another Chipolte restaurant is also planned for McCandless Crossing.
