Did You Know? McCandless is Giving Away Free Mulch

The mulch is free to any McCandless resident.

It's the time of the year when many homeowners have yards and yards of mulch delivered to be spread around trees, shrubs and flower beds.

Did you know that McCandless gives away leaf mulch for free? Homeowners can haul away as much as they want from the parking lot for the soccer fields, located just across Ingomar Road from the 9-hole pitch and putt golf course in McCandless.

You can access the parking lot from the driveway adjacent to the McCandless-Franklin Park EMS station. (Click on "view larger map" for exact location)

The mulch is the result of leaves collected last fall by the town.

Rico Lorenzini, a McCandless resident, appreciates the free mulch, but doesn't appreciate some of the trash that ends up in the pile by people who don't realize the leave collections are not the same as garbage pickups.

"There are tennis balls, soccer shoes; I’ve seen it all," he said. "Every year it gets worse. I’m not saying it’s intentional, I think people just need to be aware, that’s all."
