Meet Our Local Authors

Northland Public Library will host four local authors who will present interesting details about their books, their choices of plot, characters or subject and their publishing efforts.

Gerald Caskey has written a delightful historical fiction/fantasy tale titled The Bullfrog, Big Foot and the Beast on the Bayou with a focus on the life and legends of the Bayou country of Louisiana. His characters alone make for adventure and thrilling entertainment.

Doodlebug, a novel by Joseph Loftus, is based on the true story of Nazi agents and spies who entered Canada and the United States during World War II and were directed by Hitler to wreak havoc throughout both countries. While a work of fiction, the story leaves the impression that Nazi agents could have settled in the Great Lakes areas and were, in fact, responsible for some of the calamities that occurred in both countries during the war. 

Janice Lee Palko has written St. Anne’s Day, a humorous and heartwarming novel about a young woman who accepts a position as a private duty nurse for an elderly spitfire recovering from surgery. The woman prays to St. Anne to find a suitable wife for her handsome son but her plans do not go smoothly as her matchmaking skills are put to the test. 

Mark Miner, owner of Minerd.com Publishing, has gathered together the diaries of his ancestor, Ephraim Miner, of the 142^nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, in Well At This Time, which tells the true story of this Pennsylvania farm boy who was wounded in the Civil War and suffered under the Army’s ill-prepared health care and rehabilitation system of the times. Plagued with survivor guilt, he later found redemption when attending Civil War reunions as an elderly man.

Miner has also collaborated with Tunch Ilkin, former All-Pro lineman and now TV and radio announcer, and Damian Williams, Leadership League founder to produce Forged in Steel: The Seven Time-Tested Leadership Principles Practiced by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The books will be available for purchase and author signings for those who are interested.
