North Allegheny Community Group Reacts to Delay on Vote to Close Peebles Elementary
Save NA Schools was formed nearly a year ago to fight the closing of any of the district's elementary schools.

The group Save NA Schools isn't ready to claim victory, but say it is encouraged by North Allegheny School Board President Maureen Grosheider's announcement Wednesday that a vote to close Peebles Elementary would be delayed indefinitely.
"It is encouraging that the school board has taken a step back from the recommendation to close Peebles," said Laurel Schreiber of Save NA Schools. "But there is still concern that the recommendation remains on the table because elementary enrollment has increased, class sizes have gone up, and hundreds of new homes are being built."
Schreiber says the group is also encouraged by evidence the administration is listening to their suggestions.

"The good news is that several ideas suggested by the Save NA Schools group over the past year are being included in the district’s new plan," she said. "This includes adding sections to manage class size, creating a financial advisory committee, establishing a reserve for PSERS (Public Schools Employees' Retirement System,) and implementing new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education initiatives.Â
