Done Deal: Pine-Richland Hires North Allegheny Administrator as its New Superintendent

The Pine-Richland School board voted unanimously Monday night to appoint Dr. Brian R. Miller to a four-year contract as superintendent of schools.

 begins at Pine-Richland July 1. He will be paid a salary of $153,500.

School Board President Peter Lyons praised Miller, 40, during the meeting for his “frank communication style” throughout the hiring process as well as his ability to articulate his methods and goals for the district.

“In this process, we sought out candidates locally and nationally and engaged in detailed conversations with candidates about their experiences,” he said. “We also discussed with them how they would plan and execute a vision embraced by the community.”

Miller, 40, attended Monday’s meeting with his wife, Heidi, and daughters Abby and Paige. A McCandless resident, he will be the seventh superintendent in the history of Pine-Richland School District.

“I appreciate the board’s selection and confidence,” Miller said. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve and lead the students, staff and community of the Pine-Richland School District.”  

Prior to becoming assistant superintendent at North Allegheny, Miller was assistant superintendent for secondary education and curriculum, assistant superintendent of curriculum, principal at Carson Middle School and the assistant principal at Ingomar Middle School within the North Allegheny School District. 

He also coached several teams at the middle and high school levels, according to the North Allegheny School District website.

Miller replaces Dr. Mary Bucci, who resigned in December after officials voted 5-3 not to renew her contract when it expired this year.
