Bug Flying In Car Caused Accident: Northampton Police Log
A phone charger set fire to a bed, police found a car ablaze in a driveway, and more incidents occurred between Aug. 9 and Aug. 15.
NORTHAMPTON, PA — Last week, the Northampton Township Police Department responded to 29 alarms, 32 abandoned 911 calls, 28 medical calls, one domestic dispute, and 30 bookings.

Monday, Aug. 9

- Police conducted a traffic stop at Buck Road and Holland Road for speeding. While the car was coming to a stop, the passenger threw a white bag out the window. After further investigation, the passenger was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
- Police responded to West Bristol Road at Jacksonville Road for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car's driver said she was preparing to turn right onto West Bristol Road when a bug flew in her face causing her to collide with the second car. The second car's driver sustained minor injuries. Both cars required a tow.
- Police responded to Hatboro Road at Bobbie Drive for a report of a two-vehicle accident. The first car swerved into the oncoming lane of travel and collided with the second car. There were no reported injuries, but the second car required a tow. The operator of the first car was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
- Police responded to a home at Ross Road for a report of a car on fire in the driveway. Upon arrival, they observed flames under and around the wheel well of the vehicle. The Northampton Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.
Tuesday, Aug. 10
- Police responded to a parking lot off Bustleton Pike for a report of a car accident. The first car, described as a white pick up truck, struck the second car while exiting a parking space and left the area. There were no reported injuries. The second car sustained minor damage.
- Police were assisting with keeping the road closed at Hatboro Road and Kings Way while paving operations took place. A landscape truck drove past the road closure sign and was stopped by police. After further investigation, the driver was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
- Police responded to Buck Road and Elaine Drive for the report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car slipped on wet ground while negotiating a curve and entered the oncoming lane, striking the second car. There were no reported injuries. The first car required a tow.
- Police responded to Buck Road at Middle Holland Road for a report of a two-vehicle car accident. The first car rear-ended the second car. There were no reported injuries and neither required a tow.

- Police responded to Middle Holland Road at Saint Leonard's for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car rear ended the second. There were no reported injuries. The second car required a tow.
Thursday, Aug. 12
- Police responded to a home off Rotterdam Drive West for a report of a fire. The complainant reported that an iPhone charger was very hot and began sparking. The complainant removed the charger from the outlet, igniting a small portion of their mattress. The fire was extinguished prior to police arrival.
- Police responded to a home for a report of simple assault. Someone was taken into custody.
Friday, Aug. 13
- Police responded to Whitehurst Drive for a report of a hit and run accident. A car there was struck sometime overnight. There was minor damage to the rear signal and bumper.
- Police responded to 2nd St. Pike at Almshouse Road for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car rear ended the second. There were no reported injuries and neither car required a tow.
- Police responded to Crossroads Plaza for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car backed into the second. There were no reported injuries and neither car required a tow.
Saturday, Aug. 14
- Police observed intentional damage to one of Northampton Township’s speed boards. Those with information can contact headquarters and ask for Officer Wigler.
- Police responded to the Industrial Park off Railroad Drive for a report of an attempted theft. A business owner reports that, through his camera system, he saw someone looking through some stuff on his business property, but was unsure if anything was taken. He said he would follow up if there were missing items.
- Police responded to Bustleton Pike at Lower Holland Road for a report of a two-vehicle car accident. The first car rear ended the second. There were no reported injuries and neither vehicle required a tow.
Sunday, Aug. 15
- Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Bustleton Pike at 2nd St. Pike for a suspended registration. The driver was taken into custody for an active warrant and possession of a controlled substance.
