RICHBORO, PA — Several residents reported car damage after fueling up at a local Wawa gas station, according to social media and published reports.

According to social media accounts, more than a dozen vehicle owners reported mechanical problems after filling up at the Richboro Wawa over the course of two days last week.

The gas was purchased on July 17 and 18. Residents reported that their cars almost immediately began experiencing mechanical problems, including damage to engine, fuel injector, and sensors. The repair bills, in some cases, cost vehicle owners thousands of dollars, reports said.

One person who purchased the gas faced $3,000 in repairs immediately after, The Bucks County Courier Times reported. The report also noted a local mechanic reported receiving 10 calls before 11 a.m. last Tuesday from people with car problems who fueled up at the Richboro Wawa.

Vehicle owners who believe their vehicles were damaged after purchasing gas at the Second Street Pike convenience store can submit a claim to Wawa through its fuel quality guarantee program.

Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce said the company is "aware of an issue with the fuel equipment on one tank at our Richboro store. Once aware of the issue, and the potential impact to fuel, we took immediate steps to correct it and we are working with our fuel equipment manufacturer to investigate and understand the issue including the timing of any potential impact. "

Bruce added, "At this time, we believe that this was an isolated incident that may have affected a limited number of customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused," she said.

If you purchased gas on those dates at the Richboro Wawa and believe the fuel caused a mechanical problem with your car, Bruce encourages customers to submit a claim form online through Wawa's "quality fuel guarantee."

According to a Bucks County spokesperson, the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection/Weights and Measures is aware of the issue. Consumers who wish to file a complaint with Consumer Protection can do so by clicking here.
