Trader Joe's Has No Plans For A Richboro Store, Rep Says

All hope is not lost, though. A spokeswoman said Trader Joe's is "always looking for possible new locations that would be a great fit."

RICHBORO, PA — Bad news, Richboro shoppers. Trader Joe's says the popular chain has no current plans to fill the local grocery gap.

"While we do review all requests, there are currently no plans to bring a Trader Joe’s to Richboro," said company spokeswoman Kenya Friend-Daniel in an email to Patch.

Patch checked in with the California-based grocery chain in the wake of news that Murray's Richboro Market, a locally owned favorite since 1994, was closing its doors. Once they came to terms with the closure, locals residents began mobilizing an online effort to get Trader Joe's to take its place.

"There is a push to open a TRADER JOES in Murray’s location in Richboro," reads a post that began popping up on more than a few Facebook timelines earlier this week. "If anyone is interested, please go to Trader Joes website. Click on contact us and Request a TJ's in my city. Hopefully with a mass appeal, we may get a local TJs."

Separately, Patch asked Wednesday on Facebook what local businesses readers would like to see open. Northampton Patch had 142 responses as of Friday morning and, like in other places, Trader Joe's was overwhelmingly the most popular response.

"Trader Joe’s to come in where Murray’s was," one follower wrote.

"Trader Joe’s. I still feel lost without Shopping Bag," another wrote, using a former name of Murray's. "I hate Acme and Giant."

While the "fresh format" grocery, which goes heavy on gourmet, organic, vegetarian and imported foods, has no current Richboro plans, Friend-Daniel said that's not necessarily a reason to give up all hope.

"We love when a community wants a Trader Joe’s store in the neighborhood," she wrote. "In fact, that’s the first thing we consider when trying to decide where to open a new location—whether or not a neighborhood wants us in the area."

She said the company is "always looking for possible new locations that would be a great fit."
