Frank E. (Red) Kimmel

A World War II veteran, Kimmel played baseball on the U.S. Navy team with an average of .330 during 1946.

Frank E. (Red) Kimmel, 89, of West View, died August 12, 2011.

He was the husband of the late Ann, his one true love. Father of Frank (Diane) and Kenneth (Lexy); grandfather of Frank, Jr., and Meredythe, both of whom brought joy and longevity; brother of Vivian and DeeDee. 

They say there are perhaps a thousand spoken languages and that a single smile speaks them all. If that's true "Sonny" spoke them all. He was never without a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand.

Kimmel was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate 1st class on the USS Grayson (DD-435) where he saw action during the "Doolittle" strike on Tokyo at Guadalcanal, the Marshall Islands, Wake Island, Leyte Gulf and other engagements. After the war he was a baseball player for his Navy team with an average of .330 during 1946.

Kimmel loved baseball and golf, America, his friends and family.

Following a private family Christian prayer service he will be buried at sea.
