Kathy Reid is seeking a second term.

Kathy Reid is one of three incumbent members of the North Hills School Board seeking re-election. She is a 40 year resident of Ross Township and her three children have all graduated from North Hills. She has also two grandchildren who attend Ross Elementary School.

Prior to her election to the school board, she was a longtime volunteer in the district and a cheerleading coach. During my first term on the board, we hired a new Superintendent, Dr. Patrick Mannarino, who has brought new fresh ideas to the district as well as a working relationship with our employees. I was an integral part of our Community Redistricting Plan, Construction Project, and transition of our current Elementary School Configuration. Now North Hills has four state of the art elementary schools. As a board member, I am on the Policy Committee, working with Dr. Mannarino, in seeing that all of our policies are all updated. I have also been on the Budget Committee the last 6 years.

In addition, North Hills has the Online Academy, which offers more than 105 courses for students in grades 7-12. This year we also expanded our Online Academy to elementary K-6. Every year our enrollment has grown saving our taxpayers thousands of dollars that would go for private schools if our district did not have an online program. We now have six academic academies, offering 30 Advanced Placement Courses, eight College-in-High School Courses, and access to an unlimited number of college courses through dual enrollment agreements with regional colleges and universities. We have award winning Art and Music programs garnering recognition in NH Jr. High School Concert Band, North Hills High School Bands and more than 100 instrumental and choral students participate in local, regional and state music festivals and honors ensembles. Our Sr. High Spring Musical has been recognized by the Gene Kelly Awards for which our students have won various awards. Athletics and activities are the other half of education, and our student athletes have won various WPIAL championships

North Hills maintains one of the lowest millage rates in Allegheny County, the seventh lowest rate among the county’s 42 suburban school district while still providing outstanding educational programs. Therefore, I am seeking re-election to continue providing quality education and programs, which are fiscally responsible. Let’s keep this district on the cutting edge of education!
