North Hills Indians Football Coach to be Inducted into WPIAL Hall of Fame

The WPIAL announced North Hills football coach Jack McCurry as one of several 2013 Hall of Fame inductees.

Legendary North Hills football coach Jack McCurry will be inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame.

McCurry is part of the 2013 class the WPIAL announced during a ceremony Wednesday morning at the Heinz History Center.

McCurry announced his retirement from North Hills football only a few months ago, finishing as the third-winningest coach in WPIAL history with a record of 281-108-9 during 35 seasons (1978-2012), the newspaper said. .

McCurry won four WPIAL championships, one PIAA title and USA Today ranked his 1987 team No. 1 in the country.

"It's nice to see the WPIAL recognize Jack so quickly after his retirement," said Dan Cardone, North Hills Athletic and Activities Director. "We at North Hills are proud of his record and his accomplishments, and it's nice to see him win the recognition he so richly deserves."

The WPIAL selects inductees in six different categories. Induction ceremonies will take place June 7 during a banquet in Green Tree.

Other coaches to be inducted include Don Barth, North Catholic girl’s basketball and Lindy Lauro, the longtime football coach at New Castle.
