Local Olympian Holding Girls Soccer Camp for North Hills Area Youths

The camp will focus on the physical, technical, tactical, psychological, emotional and social development of the individual female player.

For the second year in a row, Meghan Klingenberg, an alternate on the U.S. women's soccer team in the 2012 Olympics, will share her skills with area youths.
The MK Soccer Camp for middle school and high school age girls will be held July 5-7 at the Dick’s SportsPlex at Graham Park in Cranberry. Girls as young at age 10 also are welcome to attend the event.

A 2007 Pine-Richland High School graduate, Klingenberg said on her website she wanted to share with area girls the lessons she learned playing at a professional level.

“When I decided that I wanted to run a soccer camp last year, I knew that it had to be something special,” she said. “My position on the USWNT puts me in a unique position to create an elite camp that I wish I could have attended as a youth player.”

The camp will focus on the physical, technical, tactical, psychological, emotional and social development of the individual female player, she said.

Along with Klingenberg, a staff of national team members, including current and former University of North Carolina players, will create a learning environment that challenges players to train on the edge of their technical abilities.

“What I came up with is an environment in which the girls can grow and thrive as soccer players and as persons,” Klingenberg said. “We decided that we wouldn't be constrained by the expectations for a typical youth soccer camp.

The cost is $250 per person for the individual camps in the mornings. The cost is $220 per person for team camp. Each team will consist of at least 10 kids.

Proceeds from the camp benefit Meghan’s Foundation, which aims to help underprivileged or exceptional youth reach their full athletic potential.

In addition, Klingenberg will hold a charity golf outing at 9 a.m. July 5 at the Pittsburgh National Golf Club in Gibsonia to benefit Meghan’s Foundation. The outing will be followed by a banquet-style lunch.

The cost for the golf outing is $125 per person or $440 per foursome.
