Police Arrest 12 for DUI During Weekend Checkpoints and Roving Patrols

North Hills DUI Task Force targeted areas in West Deer, Ross and Shaler townships, Etna and West View.

Twelve people were charged with DUI over the weekend as police from the North Hills were out in force to conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, according to North Hills DUI Task Force coordinator Scott J. Rick.

Four were arrested at Saturday's sobriety checkpoint in West Deer Township along Route 910. Of the 355 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, three people were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and one for drug paraphernalia possession, Rick said in a press release.

Five citations were issued for vehicle-code violations.

Eight people were arrested for DUI during Sunday's roving patrol detail in Ross Township, Shaler Township, Etna and West View, said Rick, who is an officer for 

In 93 traffic stops, two people were arrested for underage drinking. One citation was issued for driving under suspension and three for driving without the "required financial responsibility."

Twenty citations were issued for various vehicle-code violations.

The North Hills DUI Task Force has conducted 157 checkpoints/roving patrols during the past 16 years. In that time, 1,610 individuals have been tested for DUI, with 707 arrested.

The North Hills DUI Task Force is composed of officers from the police departments of Etna, Indiana, Northern Regional, O’Hara, Ross, Shaler, West Deer and West View.
